Aunt Dracula
AUNT DRACULA
This band are on something, and whatever it is, I want it. "Diddle Coaster" starts out all Animal Collective with an infusion of LSD, and quickly barks and jabbers its way into the local mental asylum. Alternatively, "Fairy Farm" locates itself firmly in the middle of an echoey industrial park, with a primeval town crier forewarning of...well, the frontman could be babbling about anything to be honest. You get the feeling that whatever it is, it's apocalyptic. Elsewhere they've been described as having a "strange endearing...take on post-punk" by Joshua Valocchi. I'm not entirely sure Aunt Dracula are definable. Whatever they are, they're a far leap away from the post-punk bands that immediately spring to mind.
With more and more creative indie types coming out of Northern America and Canada, it's getting harder to mold modern influences into something new, but Aunt Dracula do it with style. Check their blog for info on their upcoming album, to be self released.
Their songs are streamable from their MySpace
P.S. Since recording the song below, Kez has recorded two more, so I'll be updating the post and putting a reminder down the bottom, so you can trace her through me until I make her get a MySpace.
